    The Jamaica from Brielle had caught a mix of the small blues plus mackerel to the southeast on Thursday, but that was very slow this morning before there was a call from Capt. Ed Yates of the Hunter from Barnegat who ran across blues on the way offshore for bottom fishing. The Mimi VI will be sailing open for bottom fishing on Monday at 7 a. m. from Point Pleasant Beach.

Chaos boated fluke of 7 5 8, 8 7 16, and 9 9 16 pounds There was some great bluefishing in Raritan Bay up through Saturday, when I ended up there with Bob Correll of Bay Head on his Boston Whaler -- along with the entire bluefish fleet from Belmar to Brooklyn.     Jim Hutchinson Sr. reports The weather is hot in Beach Haven, and the fishing on the boats of the Beach Haven Charter Fishing Association continues to heat up on both inshore trips and those offshore to the canyons. Captain John Lewis had the Insatiable out bottom fishing and landed a wide variety of fish including fluke, black sea bass, and ling.

    Then Bob Correll of Bay Head made a late decision to use his Boston Whaler today, I suggested we look for big blues which I heard were being caught the last couple of days to the north. There was no sign of life all the way until we saw the Jamaica from Brielle head into Raritan Bay -- where the entire bluefish fleet from Belmar to Brooklyn was fishing.

    The Sandy Hook Bay Anglers Fluke Tournament runs the next two days out of Atlantic Highlands Marina, and last minute entries are possible at tonight's 7 p. m. captains meeting in the Senior Citizen's Building at the marina. There were also no fluke reports today, though Capt. Ron Santee of the Fishermen from Atlantic Highlands said Thursday was the first day this season that he could call really good.

    The big money Point Pleasant Elks Fluke Tournament follows next Saturday with a 145 power boat entry fee paid by July 19 plus a kayak division for product prizes with an early entry fee of 50. Joe Melillo, at Castaways Tackle in Point Pleasant, reports fluking has been good in Manasquan River, where Pete Boswell of Point Pleasant used squid and spearing to boat an 8-pound fluke.
